Bible Verse

Jeremiah 29:11 – ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I am just feeling this verse today. It is the verse most commonly given to those feeling lost or struggling with their place in the big picture of Gods world. It is also I think the one most often taken out of context.

No, I read back and actually looked at who the Lord was talking to. What YOU were they talking about? What does the promise to prosper and not harm, plans to give hope and a future, from God really mean? This is what it seems to be to me. He was not talking to one person but a group of people. What group? All those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. The promise- to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future? That came after 70 years in exile. As I read on in the Scriptures I found that this promise was fulfilled: those in exile went back, and the nation of Israel was restored for a while.

I am not minister or bible scholar. I am just your average person who goes to church on more of the Sundays  out of the year than not. I go to the Monday bible studies that interest me. I have many wonderful Christian friends I can bounce my thoughts off when I am twisted up about where something is leading me. I have a bible I love to read.  Right now its the CEV version. I own a few different versions. It’s great to compare. So really these are just opinions and observations from someone who may not be so different than you. Seeking the word and studying it. Enjoying my own personal relationship with my savior. Surrounding myself with friends of faith. Making my way as an imperfect person in an imperfect world and learning something new as I grow closer to my Lord and Savior every day.

Living The Good Life,
